Obtaining a certification validates your skills, knowledge, and expertise in a specialty area.  The ANCC Magnet Pathway to Excellence® Framework promotes Professional Development as one of the six standards, and encourages nurses to earn certifications in their specialty areas. Maintaining a certification requires nurses to remain current in their knowledge, and promotes competence in providing evidence-based, quality nursing care.
