Using this year’s AACN theme, "Guided by Why," West Houston Chapter (WHC) educational offerings explored the reasons for WHY, while actively promoting AACN’s mission, vision and values. Our mission is to provide knowledgeable programs to the acute and critical care nursing population, conveying members’ requests with an emphasis on WHY. With the board’s approval, the Educational Needs Assessment Survey was revised to encompass an assortment of topics to motivate professional growth and improve nursing practice. The board supports the goals for monthly educational programs and a full-day symposium. One of our strategies was to establish guidelines for the education being presented. We determined that the education should stimulate the nurses’ interest, focus on quality care and be thought-provoking in its relationship to WHY. Each year, WHC looks for various ways to expand knowledge of safe patient management and nursing practice.
